Communication Specialist (Council Bluffs)

Position: Communication Specialist

Reports to: Program Manager

Compensation Status: Part-time, hourly

Hours: Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 12:30p – 5:30p; Tuesday/Thursday: 2:30p – 7:30p

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the main form of communication between Together’s staff and its participants and guests walking through the front door of the Choice Pantry located in Council Bluffs, IA. The Communication Specialist will facilitate the operations of the Front Desk, through interactions with incoming participants and guests, answering phones, communicating with staff, providing accurate information, and ensuring the front desk has the supplies it needs. This is a part-time, approximately 25 hour/week, position with the following schedule: Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 12:30p – 5:30p and Tuesday/Thursday: 2:30p – 7:30p.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Answering incoming phone calls, providing accurate and appropriate information, and transferring phone calls to the appropriate staff member

- Handling all walk-in participants, answering their questions and providing accurate and appropriate information

- Provide participants with the necessary forms and materials for its services

- Assist the Program Manager with the production and distribution of written informational material to be distributed in the front area of the Pantry

- Notify the Program Manager when supplies for the front desk are low and need to be ordered

- Maintain organization with front desk and cleanliness of front area

- Provide support to Choice Pantry operations as requested

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Hearing and vision must be correctable to normal ranges: Read documents, computer screen, answer phones, and communicate in person

- Must be able to stand for part of the day

- Dexterity: Utilizing phone, typing, and writing

- Must be able to life at least 50 pounds

 

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

- Previous experience in customer service

- Ability and sensitivity in serving people with different cultural and socioeconomic characteristics

- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

- Ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations when they arise

- Ability to operate office equipment and computers
